My Childhood Games

Children nowadays don’t go out to play. They are often seen forming a hole in couches and chairs playing the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PSP or other video games. They are also hooked to their computers and the internet.

I remember when I was little, we never had those fancy video games or a computer. We resorted to playing with whatever we can use. Childhood games of the past require the use of imagination, smarts, and energy.

My favourite plaything was cardboard boxes. I would ask my parents and neighbours if they had any to spare. I would then stay inside the box and play make-believe all day. My favourite make-believe story was the time I pretended I was inside a rocket ship. I would wear a small pail over my head pretending that I was a space helmet. Then, I pretended to manuever my rocket ship to take me to the moon. From my window, I could see the meteors, stars and planets.

I also love playing hopscotch when I was a kid. I like drawing the pattern on our driving way and adding numbers on the boxes using chalk. Hopping up and down the pattern never ceases to make me so happy.
